Lushnjė/Lushnja (Albania)
Lushnjė (or Lushnja) is a city of Central-West Albania, with a population of about 280,000. It is the center of the District of Lushnjė in the County of Fier. The town was founded in the late Middle Ages by a Turkish widow called Salushe. She built a restoring point in the road from Durrės to Berat, and this is how the town was born. Old people still call the city Salushe. In January 1920, Lushnjė was a provisional capital of Albania and seat of the Congress of Lushnjė. Chieftains of Albania assembled in town and declared Tirana first the provisional and then the definitive capital of Albania. The Lushnjė district is one of very few field districts of mountainous Albania and is the main provider of agricultural products to the rest of the country. The first agro-cooperative in Albania was created in Krutja, a village in the Lushnja District
